Goes in Regular Trash
General household clutter, worn clothing you are not donating, broken small appliances under a certain size, non-hazardous packaging, and most non-electronic items can go directly into the trash bin. If the volume fits in your standard bin without overfilling the lid, it will be picked up on your regular collection day.

Needs a Container or Bulk Pickup
Furniture, mattresses, large appliances, and multi-bag cleanouts exceed what a standard residential bin handles in one cycle. These are the items that typically require a bulk pickup call or a roll-off container depending on how much you have. A single sofa is usually handled as a bulk item; five rooms of furniture and boxes is a container situation.

Requires Special Disposal
Some common spring cleaning items cannot go in regular trash or a roll-off container:
- Electronics (televisions, computers, monitors): These are classified as electronic waste and contain materials such as lead, mercury, and cadmium that are regulated under Florida solid waste law. Orange County operates periodic e-waste collection events.
- Batteries: Household alkaline batteries are generally accepted in trash in Florida, but lithium-ion batteries from laptops and power tools should go to a retailer take-back program or a hazardous waste event.
- Paint: Latex paint that has fully dried can typically go in the trash. Liquid latex paint and all oil-based paint are household hazardous waste and must go to a designated drop-off facility.

- Propane tanks: Empty tanks are accepted at hardware store exchange programs; partially full tanks need hazardous waste handling.
